A Warm and Meaningful Beginning to 2026
January at Prospect House has been full of warmth, connection, and some very wonderful times. The month has been a soft and cheerful start to 2026, from ushering in the New Year to celebrating milestones and enjoying familiar comforts.
Welcoming the New Year Together
On New Year’s Eve, we had a party to welcome in the New Year. Peter and Sarah, two talented team members, sang live, which got the residents dancing, singing along, and having a great time. We popped party poppers and pulled Prosecco corks. It was a nice opportunity to wish our residents, their families, and the whole Prospect House family a quiet and prosperous year ahead.
Residents also welcomed the New Year in a quieter, more thoughtful way by attending a tranquil Holy Communion ceremony. We are very thankful to Revd Dr. Janine Arnott for helping the residents start the year off right.
Celebrations to Remember
There were some great reasons to rejoice in January. We celebrated a very significant birthday with a lovely cake cooked by our chef. Everyone in the building enjoyed it with their families. There were also two amazing 100th birthdays that month. Family came together to commemorate 100 amazing years for one resident, and we were honoured to celebrate both milestones with love and respect.
Being together with family and friends
An emotional reunion between siblings was one of the most moving things that happened this month. Even though the weather was bad, family members made the trip to Prospect House, which made for a visit that everyone will remember for a long time.
Residents have continued to appreciate the comfort of established routines, toasty winter days spent indoors, and the peace of mind that comes from spending time together in a safe and supportive atmosphere.
Conversation, activities, and friendship
Residents did a lot of interesting things that were important to them. Creative flower arrangement activities added colour and peace, and they also gave people a place to talk. One of these talks was about what’s going on in the world right now. It gave people a chance to talk about their worries, thoughts, and feelings in a safe space.
Gentle exercises, balloon games, and themed quizzes got people moving and laughing. Reading sessions together brought back memories and led to vibrant conversations, especially when talking about stories from the 1970s.
The Happiness of Pets and Music
Visits from therapy dogs have proven to be a delight. Finn, Syve, and Isla each offered their own type of peace, comfort, and happiness. People who live here have said moving things about how these visits have helped them, and we are very thankful to the volunteers who make them happen.
This month, music has also been quite essential. Eve from Kiddleydivey came back to Prospect House and led a fun Western-themed session that got everyone singing, moving, and smiling.
